Loftus Family
Dental is one of the few dentist offices in the Inland Northwest that offers IV conscious sedation
services. IV conscious sedation is an extremely beneficial opportunity for people who:
Fear visiting
the dentist Have had past traumatic dental experiences
Have difficulty becoming numb
Have a bad gag reflex
Have very sensitive teeth
Have complex dental problems, requiring long procedures
Hate needles and shots
Dislike the noises, smells, and tastes of dental work
Are embarrased about their teeth
Only after you have experienced IV conscious sedation dentistry will you truly
understand what it feels like to have a relaxing, anxiety-free dental visit. You can watch the
video below to learn more or read about the process further down this
page.
How It
Works IV conscious sedation is
administered through an IV we place in your arm after the nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") has already gone to
work. IV sedation gives the doctor a little more control, allowing him to adjust the amount
of sedative throughout the appointment to keep you comfortable.
The Process
You will need a ride to and from our office. When you arrive
we will escort you to our comfort room and cover
you with a thick, warm blanket. One of our dental assistants will place you on a monitor so
we can monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. You will never be left alone
throughout the appointment.
As you recline you will be in a deeply relaxed state,
and may be unaware of the surrounding noises, smells, or feelings. You will be responsive to the
doctor's questions and able to move your head, neck, and jaw when he prompts you. Many of our patients
become so relaxed that they fall asleep.
Because you are relaxed and comfortable, we can do
years worth of dental treatments in one or two visits. We can replace crowns, complete root
canals, extract teeth for dentures, treat infected gums, whiten yellow or stained teeth, fix a chipped tooth,
and more. People with very busy schedules can get the dental care they need, easily and
quickly.
When your treatment is completed, your companion will return you home to finish your
comfortable, relaxing day. The person caring for you should stay with you for 24 hours, as the
medications can take that long for the effects to wear
off. After, you will wake up refreshed, and
may have little or no memory of what was accomplished.
Imagine being able to
smile with confidence and chew your food without discomfort! No wonder so many of our patients say that sedation
dentistry has changed their lives!
